The first distillery to be built in the Lake District in more than a century will start production after receiving a grant of £ 250,000. Britain’s Energy Coast (BEC) awarded the funds through its “Investing in Business” grant enabling the distillery to unlock a further £ 2million in investment. Plans for the distillery were unveiled last year.

Torabhaig Distillery will be built on a 19th century farm on the south east coast of the island. The distillery will be a subsidiary of Mossburn Distillers. It is expected to cost around £ 5 million and production is planned for end of 2015.
The only distillery on the island is the Diageo owned Talisker Distillery.

One of the Thienpont brothers has sold his two Medoc properties to a Chinese state-owned energy firm. Luc Thienpont will remain as technical director for s minimum of two years. Reports say Liaoning Energy is to have Lina Fan as a Chinese director alongside Thienpont. Fan has worked in France for years and previously worked in Champagne and the Loire. She is the widow of Peng Wang, the financial advisor and interpreter killed in the recent helicopter crash in the region.
