Two men set fire to a shop in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia on Sunday 2nd February at 05,00 hrs. They walked into the kiosk and demanded a bottle of “Becks Gold”. When informed that that beer was not stocked the two men left. However, they returned 20 minutes later with a jerry can of petrol and poured it over the entrance to the shop and set it alight. A small fire caused minor damage before being extinguished and no one was injured. Police are looking for two Polish speaking men aged about 30.

Sales of beer in Germany dropped for a seventh year in 2013 to their lowest since 1989. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported that 94.6 million hectolitres of beer was sold by German breweries in 2013, a decrease of 1,9 million hectolitres. The French owned luxury goods conglomerate, Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) has recorded a successful 2013 with a total revenue of €29.1 billion, a 4% increase on the previous year. The group has amongst its brands Chateau d’Yquem, Dom Perignon and Veuve Clicquot. The company said it had see “remarkable performance” despite “challenging economic environment”. Continue reading

Diageo is responsible for brands including Johnnie Walker whisky and Guinness has said its had grown by 1,8 % in the first half of 2013 much slower than the previous growth of 2.2% in the first quarter. Total emerging market net sales rose 1,3% and North American sales were up 4,6% but Western Europe saw a drop in sales of 1%. Continue reading

Long suffering shareholders of Australia’s biggest wine producer received more disappointment and pain at the year end when it requested to have its shares suspended in Sydney. The company owns brands such as Penfolds, Lindemans, Wynns and Rosemount. Profits in 2013-14 will be Aussie Dollars 40m lower than it had predicted. Continue reading
